Upgrades to SLA Online
Frontline Data, our software development partners, have recently made some changes to SLA Online, these are particularly visible in the Training area. Very soon we will be making further changes which will affect all users. Ahead of this I will provide a guide showing what the changes are, how they affect your school/service, and any changes to your responsibilities. To help users with these changes, Frontline Data have also published several more "How to.." guides in the Knowledge Base. This is a really good place to find out more about SLA Online and its potential. To access the Knowledge Base, click on the question mark at the top right hand corner of the screen.
Data Protection Officer Service for Schools
As public authorities, academy trusts and maintained schools are required to appoint a data protection officer from 25th May 2018. The role can be carried out by a member of staff, provided that a) there is no risk of conflict of interest, which normally excludes the headteacher, school business manager, network or assessment manager and b) they have the time and expertise. Schools and academies can also collaborate to provide services to each other on a reciprocal basis.
At Governors' Gateway we also offer a DPO service at what we believe is an accessible price point of £375 per day. We think it is unlikely, unless there are some very significant data protection shortcomings to unpick or particularly complex subject access requests, or breach allegations to respond to that any school would require more than 4 days of support per year. In most cases we believe the requirement will be for less.
DPO services can be purchased via SLA online or by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org 01634 957783
