Course Content • Legislation – Introduction to The Provision and Use of work equipment Regulations, Schedule 6 of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and HSE Guidance INDG455, employer and employee duties and the hierarchy of control measures. • Risk Assessments – what is a risk assessment? Identifying hazards, deciding who may be harmed, evaluating risks, recording findings, reviewing and updating. S.T.E.P. format • Reducing and Controlling the Risks – risk reduction, fragile surfaces, vehicles, training and emergency procedures. • Types of Equipment – Step ladders, Extendable ladders, required standards and classifications, Inspections, Transport

Outcomes

Aims of the course • To ensure employers meet their legal duty under Regulation 5 of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 ensuring all employees engaged in any work at height activity are competent. By the end of this course learners will be able to: • Describe examples of common uses for ladders and step ladders and the associated risks. • Identify the factors that contribute to persons and objects falling from ladders and step ladders. • Describe the control measures to reduce the risk of falling form ladder and step ladders. • Understand the correct use of access equipment and safe methods of access to reduce or eliminate the risk of falls.

Audience

This course is designed for those who work, plan, supervise and manage work completed using ladders or stepladders.
